A teenage girl with plans to go to a party, dance, dinner with friends, etc. will convince herself that she has nothing to wear. She will go through her whole closet looking for the perfect outfit or that really cute top she bought just a couple weeks ago, but she’ll ultimately decide that she wants something new! She will go out of her way to make a trip to the mall. And when she goes she’ll end up buying a new shirt and manage to find a belt to go with it, a new cardigan (so she doesn’t get cold) and even another pair of shoes to complete the outfit. By the time she gets home, she is so excited to look through her shopping bags at everything she just bought.
But wait a minute. She just spent all the money she recently earned babysitting and now doesn’t have enough for that concert she has been waiting to go to. This all happened because she felt like she had nothing to wear when she really had a full closet containing many possible outfits. After she realizes this, she still won’t return what she bought, because she is too excited to wear it all, and it doesn’t really matter, she’ll make up all the money she just spent in a few weeks anyway.
Where did she go wrong? Was it when she left her house to go to the mall, or before that, when she was still standing in front of her closet, not seeing all those stylish outfits she forgot she had? Before leaving her house to spend money on something she didn’t need, she should have taken the time to go through the clothes hanging in her closet and all those loose tanks and T-shirts folded in her drawers. So when she gets home from her exciting evening full of fun, with successful compliments on her new outfit, she again has to realize that she could have easily worn something she already had and still looked amazing. And who knows, maybe she’d have gotten even more compliments!
So next time you’re deciding what to wear out, take time to look at what you have instead of going out and spending money on things you don’t need.

This is not limited to teenage girls!! us 20-somethings feel the same way
