“You must have been warned against letting the golden hours slip by; but some of them are golden only because we let them slip by.” –James Matthew Barrie
If you feel you are living your life in a routine, what should you do about it? Do you sit at home waiting for something exciting to happen? No. If you feel like your life is in a routine, then do something about it! Do something spontaneous that you wouldn’t normally do. Never wish for time to fast-forward, because it’s too valuable just to watch it disappear. When time passes, you [ ...continue reading ]

There is always that person in your life who you know will have your back—whether it’s a sister, a best friend, a mother or another family member. That person is the one person you know you can trust; the person who won’t laugh at you when you do something embarrassing or will make you laugh when you feel like crying. And she (for simplicity, I’ll assume this person is a girl—it could be a boy, too) does these things for you not just because she knows you would do the same for her but also because the friendship you [ ...continue reading ]

When you’re gone
The pieces of my heart are missing you
When you’re gone
The face I came to know is missing too
When you’re gone
The words I need to hear to always get me through the day and make it ok
I miss you
I’ve never felt this way before
Everything that I do reminds me of you
And the clothes you left, they lie on the floor
And they smell just like you, I love the things that you do
When you walk away I count the steps that you take
Do you see how much [ ...continue reading ]

Fashion week NYC fall 2010 – picture by stylemom http://www.flickr.com/photos/stylemom/4899433078/sizes/z/in/photostream/
This year I was lucky enough to attend the Fall Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. Normally held at Bryant Park, Fashion Week this year was held at Lincoln Center. Including the huge white tents and crowds of people yearning to get in, you could tell that this event was one you wouldn’t want to miss.
As I was getting ready, all I could think about was who was going to be there. And what kind of crazy new styles would be shown? I clearly tried my best to “dress to [ ...continue reading ]

Wherever you are, there is always that clique of girls everybody loves. The pretty girls, the popular crowd or whatever you’d like to call them. Then there are also the few girls who don’t have many friends, the ones who sometimes sit alone at lunch. The ones who some people might refer to as the losers or the nerds. What does that even mean? Not having any friends qualifies them as losers? Doesn’t that sound ridiculous? And when you see or hear this, what are you supposed to do about it? Do you just ignore these girls suffering [ ...continue reading ]

Don’t you just hate how whenever you get embarrassed about something, there’s no way to hide it? Your cheeks turn all red, and everyone can see that you’re blushing. At that moment when you start feeling insecure inside, it becomes so obvious on the outside too. And then what? What are you supposed to do in that situation? Everyone knows you are embarrassed or uncomfortable, and running away will just make it worse!
I think the best thing to do is to pretend you aren’t embarrassed. Just keep on talking if you are giving a speech, or ignore [ ...continue reading ]

Not long ago, I was walking down the hallways in my high school when I noticed these bright rubber bands around the wrists of some kids in the grade above me. They seemed to have almost every color band strapped around their wrists while they made their ways through the hall. It wasn’t until math class that I actually got to see one up close. My friend was playing with her “rubber band bracelet” and I finally became aware that this wasn’t just a normal rubber band. I asked her what it was and she took [ ...continue reading ]

When I was younger, I used to believe in perfect people. I would look in magazines or watch TV and wish I was as pretty or perfect as the celebrities I was looking at. There were, and still are, people in my school or other people I meet who seem to have it together. They are smart, beautiful, nice—and they have the coolest families. I used to compare myself to some of them until I realized that I was wrong.
My mom would tell me that nobody’s perfect. People may appear that way, but the ugly truth is that [ ...continue reading ]

What did you do to celebrate Earth Day?
Some people do nothing and treat it as a normal day. Others advocate the importance of respecting our planet and keeping it eco-friendly. How would we do so? There are many ways to support our Earth, such as encouraging peers to collect plastic bottles in school, riding your bike, taking shorter showers, keeping lights off as much as possible, unplugging all electronics or power systems when not in use and even gathering friends to pick up trash around your neighborhood! All these ideas, and more of your own, can be [ ...continue reading ]

A teenage girl with plans to go to a party, dance, dinner with friends, etc. will convince herself that she has nothing to wear. She will go through her whole closet looking for the perfect outfit or that really cute top she bought just a couple weeks ago, but she’ll ultimately decide that she wants something new! She will go out of her way to make a trip to the mall. And when she goes she’ll end up buying a new shirt and manage to find a belt to go [ ...continue reading ]
