What Now, College Graduate?

As I sat at my graduation party last weekend, watching the slide show my mother so dutifully put together, I looked back on all of my other graduations. There was my preschool graduation, where I proudly posed with my “diploma” (a certificate tied with yarn) and cardboard cap. There was the 5th-grade moving-up ceremony, middle school graduation, and of course, high school graduation. Yet something seemed different about graduating from college. All of the other times, I knew what lay ahead: elementary school, middle school, high school and college.

Mary J. Blige’s Benefit Concert

Every year, Mary J. Blige hosts a benefit concert to raise money for young women and girls who cannot afford to stay in school, graduate or begin their careers. She has created the FFAWN foundation, which raises thousands of dollars every year for these girls. Blige has ultimately made a huge difference in the lives of these girls by giving them opportunities to experience life and become educated and prepared for success.

Product Review: What You Don’t Know Can Keep You Out of College, by Don Dunbar

I enjoyed reading this book because it was a light and easy read for what might have been a boring subject. No one wants to read a stack of college books that are supposedly helpful, so it’s good to find one that actually is helpful. Some of the points the author made were obvious, exaggerated or ridiculous, but he also made some good points that I had never thought of before.
